Why is Colombian Coffee famous?

You might be wondering, why is Colombian coffee famous?… Colombia’s coffee is known worldwide due to its flavor and aroma, and is also one of world’s top coffee exporters. So far this year, Colombia has exported more than 6.8 million bags, not to mention that the year is not over. Here I will explain many reasons why world loves this coffee.

How it all started…

Coffee is believed to have arrived to Colombia by the French around the 18th centuary. A person who contributed a lot to the expansion of coffee in Colombia was the Jesuit priest Francisco Romero. When their faithful confessed, the priest imposed them as penance to redeem their guilt, to sow coffee. Back then, Colombians saw an opportunity to produce enormous amounts of coffee.

What influences its taste?

It is produced mainly in Eje Cafetero because of the climatic conditions of this area that significantly influence the coffee bean flavor, although in each region in which coffee is grown in Colombia has a different flavor, sometimes sweeter, acid or bitter thats why it is called origin coffee. Therm used to identify when it comes from a region or farm, with unique qualities, because they grow in special places.

Colombian tradition

In Colombia is very common to see someone drinking coffee at any time of the day, it’s one of the favorite and most essential things at the time of purchase. Colombia is full of coffee stores, each one sells a different specialty coffee, even though one of the most popular is called ‘Juan Valdez Café’, they started in 1959 and went directly to Japan, that is why they are the second largest consumer of Colombian Coffee in the world.

An experience full of flavors

Due to the success of coffee many farms have designated a tour so that tourist can know the entire process behind a cup of coffee. Where you can find activities like the fact of harvesting coffee and drying process and they also show different cupping methods so that people knows the influence of the process on a bean coffee. A great place to start this amazing experience is called ‘Café La Morelia’, located in Quindío.

A coffee culture

Thanks to its impact in the country, many places in Colombia still preserve a traditional coffee farm full of colors. Representing with proud what our ancestors did and where they lived. Towns in Colombia are full of color and history places like houses with doors and huge windows made of wood are the most principal attractive of foreign people at the moment of visiting Colombia for the first time.
