Loved the article. I can sort of relate, I spent 10 years as a software engineer, then ended up doing a PhD at a Human-Computer Interaction research group. I decided to quit academia after a year of postdoc, and throw myself into freelancing. I had to think long and hard how I’d position myself, and which skills I should try to sell. I realised the 6…
It’s true that knowing you’ll have to code it puts you in a complete different mindset. I tend to dumb things down a lot then :D
Bu it’s good that you (we) know what it takes to technically achieve something, and I believe that’s a required skill in UX researchers/UX designers/UI designers/etc, or at least a big plus vs pure…
I actually just started my own “freelancing business”! I’ve been thinking of going independent for a long time, but now that my contract at university ended, I thought it’d be a great time to try something new. Something scary new :D
I’ve done what is in essence UX design and research (just different names when you’re in…
I just quit my job. Now I’m scared! lol tnx for that
On a serious note though, look at all your achievements. They are proof of what you’re worth. Job searching can be horrible on a person though. I spent 6 months before I landed my first job after graduating a Master in CS. Living with my parents back then, I’d get asked…
I’d love to read that story on Instagram Stories. I honestly never fully understood the point of stories. I keep putting everything in my feed (mostly my daughter because she’s better on camera than I am :D https://www.instagram.com/svencharleer/)
Filming myself in public is a nightmare. I get really self conscious. I don’t understand how people can be loud and excited and enthusiastic in front of the cam among strangers. I guess it’s a matter of practice, but I’m not there yet!
Sound is so important. We’ve invested in a couple of new mics as we kept getting complaints. Not just the mic though, pronunciation is huge too. I’ve noticed how Youtubers overpronounce (is that even a word), but it makes it so easy to follow.
Content is what it’s all about through, right? We’re still finding our niche ;)
Time to question everything. At least the hype around deepfakes will hopefully make people aware: If we can fake video, maybe it’s time not to believe everything you see and read.
Glad you enjoyed the article!
I tried a few other actresses before discovering Anne Hathaway. It always looked wrong, and yes, it was due to the facial structure. I’ve learnt quite a bit about faces in that short amount of time ;) After days of staring at these extracted faces, I started becoming better at recognising face shapes. That’s also why when watching the Dark Knight Rises, I immediately realised, this is it!
