I agree on the “equality of victimhood” thing. Casting entire groups of people as perpetual victims is not only always dishonest, it is also not helping those people. But I do not think that is what Douglas is doing. He is simply advocating for fair play in his own way.

I also agree on the block quote thing. I do use them if responding to a long piece. I do not normally use them to mock the author. I try to minimise my use of them, but sometimes they are useful simply to clarify what part of the piece I am responding to in my current paragraph.

OK — I admit. Sometimes I just use them to ridicule whatever it is the author is saying. Not proud of it, but cannot guarantee I will never do it again.
