Revisiting the legacy of Didier Drogba
Didier Drogba is a former professional footballer from Ivory Coast. As a prolific striker, Drogba always seemed to have a knack of being in the right position at the right time that made him score so many goals. In addition to it, Drogba’s strong physical asset has always been another significant trait, scoring numerous long range goals from set pieces. He spent the peak of his playing career at Chelsea Football Club in the English Premier League.
He was signed by former Chelsea gaffer, Jose Mourinho from Marseille in 2004. At that point of time, there were several other top strikers in Europe and Chelsea had the resources to buy anyone they wished to. However, Mourinho knew something that the others did not and remained stuck at the prospect of buying him. Then between 2004 to 2012, Drogba wrote his name in the Chelsea history books, proving so many of his critics wrong. He notched a staggering 29 goals in the 2009–10 Premier League season.
Didier Drogba, also helped stop a civil war in his home country Ivory Coast in 2014 and helped build significant infrastructures such as schools and hospitals through the money that made in his playing career.
