Ghostwire: Tokyo

A new trailer for Ghostwire: Tokyo was released at the PlayStation State of Play event. The trailer showcases the story in more detail, revealing that Tokyo has undergone a haunting makeover after its population mysteriously disappears. Players will take on the role of Akito, who is caught in the middle of this supernatural event. Possessed by an evil spirit named KK, Akito must ward off yokai and demon spirits in order to unravel the mystery.

Players will have access to an array of mystic arts and elemental powers to dislodge fire, wind, and water attacks. In addition to the traditional tools, the game will also include mystical charms, a grappling hook, and a bow.

The trailer also reveals a mask-donning group known as the Hannya, whose intentions remain unknown. Masato Kimura, PlayStation’s producer, said the masks were inspired by the history of the ‘noh-men’ masks used in traditional Japanese performing arts. Masks worn in dark theatres can produce various emotions depending on how you look at them — such as joy, anger, grief, and pleasure.

Players can now download the prologue version of the game, Ghostwire: Tokyo — Prelude, from Steam or the Epic Games Store. The free game was developed in a visual novel format and features hand-drawn animations. It takes an average of 20 to 50 minutes to complete the game, depending on your choice of paths.

Ghostwire: Tokyo will be available for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on March 25, 2023.
