OMG!!!!!!!
OMG!! WOW! is sooo!! gooood!!!. Superlatives are thrown about like 'chillar’(loose change which adds weight but has little or no value). A mediocre okayish picture put up on a social site and the compliments make you feel like an award winning ace photographer, its nice to be appreciated, but please no over the top sugar coated, diabetes causing compliments. Prize won at the local singing competition, wishes pour in like you have won the Grammy’s, all that’s missing is the paparazzi.
The hype about a lot of things, for some the media bloats it up and for the rest we are the culprits. These superlatives have started sounding fake, a person with a single digit IQ will definitely believe them.
A few of the overrated hyped things, which you hear no end of:
Glorifying the past:
Innocent childhood, carefree college life, precious golden hued dazzling memories. But remember harder, the do's and don'ts laid down by your parents, the curfew hours, mugging up for exam, the school bully, you had to go through all this. Life always seems better in memories, if you revisit you will know that we have glorified the past.
Enjoy whatever today dishes out to you.
Romantic Love:
Surreal, larger than life romantic, considerate, gift showering heroes in movies/ romance novels (if only they were for real) have made us fantasise about beautiful, charming partners which are harder to find than a needle in a haystack. :Love is not for a moment, it is a constant give and take with each one giving their 60% to make a hundred percent relationship and adapting to one another. To have lived and loved is fabulous, but without it also you can live a fab one.
There is MORE to life than LOVE.
Failure/Success:
Failure is the first floor to the building called success. Failure is not the end of the world nor does success mean you can bask in its glory forever. After the pinnacle of success there's always a 'what next'.
Enjoy the journey and you will achieve your goals with a smile on your face.
SEX:
The big 'O' achieved is sheer bliss. Sex is used to sell deodarants (if what the promos promise happen in reality you will see orgies at every 'nukkad') to detergents which have no connection to it, unless clean clothes are a bait to attract a mate. Monks survive without it, cricketers are asked to abstain from it before a match. It is a natural physical craving akin to our hunger for food. Just the way you never overeat or risk piling on the pounds of weight, one has to have restraint in giving in to our desire for sex or else the world will be full of molestors and rapists.
Education:
The pressure to score well in school, graduate from the top colleges, but there are billionaire CEO’S who are college dropouts. The drive, grit and determination to do well with a decent education is enough.
A fancy degree is no guarantee for a high profile career.
Beauty: A pretty looking person will get a lot of admiring glances and can be chosen over a regular joe, but if the beauty is just skin deep and the person is not competent enough they will be replaced.
In the long run the inside matters more than the outside.
English:
A good speaker will impress, a golden heart will dazzle. Other native languages are as good or better than English. Take pride in the language you know. English makes life convenient but its not the only one.
Don’t get a inflated sense of self worth based on false appreciation. Instead of preening like a overpaid actor used to flattery and sycophants, learn to separate the chaff from the grain. Let life be full of superlative qualities and you will have ‘OMG!!! WOW!!! moments’.
