CONCEPTS OF MINIMALISM IN ARCHITECTURE

Hello, this article is emphasizing on minimalistic architecture. Firstly, let’s look at what is minimalism and how can it be incorporated in the architecture. The term “minimalism” precisely refers to leading a simplistic lifestyle without much clutter in any aspect of life be it materialistic or non-materialistic things. Either way, it also refers to declutter unnecessary things.

Minimalism in architecture is all about the perception of a person. Our eyes unconsciously somehow relax to the aspects of simplicity and spaciousness. It also calms anxiety for people facing it. Personally, it’s my own experience. Let’s get started.

Minimalism has been a primitive concept functioning till date. People nowadays are even more fascinated by this. Minimalism in architecture is when the design is elegant — the simplicity of form, space, material, color, and detail. There are a few pre-defined characteristics of how a minimalistic home should be :

  1. A simple plan and design layout
  2. Wide and open spaces
  3. Limited variants in color and unsophisticated cladding
  4. Green spaces
  5. Fewer decors
  6. Systematic and organized spaces
  7. Neat and clean

1.A SIMPLE PLAN AND DESIGN LAYOUT.

A simple design layout means straight and definite planning. Often, when we go to someone’s home the first thing we look at is the living space which is a rule of thumb of it being before any other. The next, dining followed by bedrooms on the adjacent side and kitchen to the rear.

2. WIDE AND OPEN SPACES.

Wide and open spaces refer to airy spaces, wherein one can experience a sense of freedom and not incarcerate. Few elements can be added up in the design including mirrors which makes space look wider, windows act prominent for ventilation. Gardens and open lawns act amazingly to bring peace and sanity. Landscape can add immense peace to the user group.

3. LIMITED VARIANTS IN COLORS AND UNSOPHISTICATED CLADDING

This characteristic is especially meant for the exterior part or facade of the building. With the use of minimum colors and materials, the facade of a building can be made. Ornamentation is beautiful and primitive but how and where to use is to be understood. A simple white facade with lighting effects can look elegant, the below picture is an example.
