Luma Fade Transition

The luma fade transition technique is a really simple yet effective way to spice up your transitions throughout your videos.

At the 3:13 mark of the video below is an example of this transition as well as other parts in this video.

In Final Cut Pro X, put the clips you want to blend in the timeline.

  1. The first step is to add a cross dissolve between the two clips
  2. In the inspector window you will see the “look” option that will have a drop down menu with a lot of different options. The one you want to choose is “shadows.” This will allow for only the shadows to be taken out during the transition.
  3. The last step is to adjust the “amount” and “ease amount” to your liking.

Each scenario and clip will vary in terms of how the effect will work, so slight tweaking will be needed in order to create the look you are going after.
