Gender and Sexuality

Are we asking the right questions about gender and sexuality? How do you ungender the gendered notions of sexuality? Isn’t sexuality a subset of gender? And how is our sexual identity determined by our gender? The sexual paraphernalia that we are born with, that’s what makes you a man or a woman. That’s the idea that most people conform to. You’re bound by the gender that has been thrust upon you by nature. This conformation insulates us against the transgressors and the transgressions. And sometimes, it does not.

While, we struggle hard to push the policy makers for better 'Vishakha Guidelines' aimed at empowering women, every women’s movement lacks an active participation from women, because as hard as men may try to help women, they remain party to the crime, courtesy of the generalisations that everyone is so eager to make.

The Youth Ki Awaaz event 'Redifining Gender: A Look Through My Rainbow Glasses' at antisocial, Hauz Khas was more than an eye opener. It was somehow intimidatingly 'intellectually liberating’. Half of the things went over my head.
After years of struggle, a lot remains to be done and achieved.

For, under the garb of modernity and social acceptance there is a blatant disregard for rights of those who dare to digress from the gender binary.
That said, there have been enough movements spearheaded by women for women’s rights and safety.
But, when will we see an active men’s movement? A movement aimed at unsullying the 'MAN' who has been branded a rapist and what not? Why should all men take the blame and bend backwards?
Let’s vouch for gender equality!
