The hard part is doing this inside your company when you are working with others. My first couple of years at my current job was “employee”. I went from just driving a tow motor to running a division over 6 years, but my title never changed, until I had to go out to customers. Suddenly everyone wanted to know who they were dealing with. When my cards just had my name on it, (and I was generally 20 years younger then the people I’m working with) you could see them glaze over and it was the end of the discussion. I end up dragging a VP or Director around with me so people will pay attention.
