The Lake of Fire is Easier to Imagine than the City of God
It is easier to envision the Lake of Fire than it is to imagine the New Jerusalem, by an order of magnitude. I think this is because if heaven and hell are the ends of a spectrum, then I would plot Earth on the graph much closer to hell. We have drunk quite a bit of torment & agony in this life, but have only tasted single drops and crumbs of bliss. Consequently, our minds are far more competent in imaging the grief of hell than the joy of Paradise, even though hell is still “unimaginably bad”. Therefore, the faith to believe that Heaven’s joys will triumph over Earth’s pains is truly great, and to trust that God will completely wipe away every tear is truly a pure trust, pleasing to God.
