Cruelty Is The Point
Florida turning down much needed money to prove a point, but what is the point exactly?
Imagine you’re a single mom struggling through life trying to pay bills. Imagine you’re a small-business contractor trying to pay expenses, bills, employees, and now your’e wondering how to get a credit extension to buy materials for your next project. Imagine you’re a student trying to pay off tuition.
People are seeing the trends. Corporations are seeing the country’s shift from fossil fuels to renewables. They want to get on board before they are left in the dust but the cost to switch over is crushing. They get thrown a lifeline by Washington in spite of Republican obstruction, in the form of the energy-efficiency incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act, the signature Biden-administration policy that passed in 2022. That’s $346 million in free money. The rebates that he rejected would have been available to not just low-income but also middle-income households; his decision deprives them of an opportunity to get money back for upgrading their home’s energy efficiency. Nobody want’s their homes to low efficiency considering the rising costs of energy. Ron seems to be hellbent on holding his state back through his deranged ideology and reactionary politics. For the MAGA who may accidentally read this, this includes you. You may think this is only targeted to your democrat neighbors and work acquaintances, but this will only blowback on you and your progeny. You’re slicing off your own nose to spite the entire face. This reminds me of the drained pool policies of the deep south; instead of integration, we’ll just drain the entire public pool so no one will be able to enjoy it.
Ron DeSantis is attempting to prove the stereotype that government does not work for the benefit of its citizens. Withholding much needed funds from people who want to save money on their utilities is beyond cruel.
