A set of the wi-fi enabled Withings (now Nokia) scales are really good for tracking progress and, as you put it, making yourself accountable. You can get a nice graph of progress on your phone or in the browser — there may be some additional reinforcement benefit to plotting this by hand though.
I’m down 7.6 Kg (an outlier but I’ll take what I can get) since Jun 13th. I haven’t been following much of a diet other than switching beer at home for whisky (with water), eating sensibly (very little meat, smaller portions) and lots more exercise (a mix of cycle commuting, swimming and the odd run — mostly fasted). A sit/stand desk helps too I think. I’m a desk worker so working standing up provides the opportunity for more motion.
