(Ignoring it can seriously affect your traffic)

Google has always been the go-to destination for driving traffic online, whether you’re a blogger, a business, or just someone with a website.

Nowadays a major buzz is going on in the online world!

Are you aware of that?

Let me help you figure it out.

This major buzz is about one of the latest announcements — Google Core Update 2024.

What is Google Core Update 2024?

In general terms, a Google Core Update is a significant change or adjustment made to the search engine’s core ranking algorithm.

On March 5th, 2024, Elizabeth Tucker (Director, Product Management, Google) via an article shared insights about the latest Google core update.

Here’s what you need to know ⬇️

1. Improved Quality Ranking Algorithm

Quality is one of the most important factors when it comes to ranking content.

The Quality Ranking Algorithm is a system used by search engines like Google to determine the relevance, reliability, and overall quality of webpages in relation to specific search queries.

The core update will likely enhance Google’s ability to distinguish between high-quality content and low-quality content.

This means that after the core update, you might notice changes in the search results.

Websites with high-quality, informative content may rank higher, while those with low-quality or unhelpful content could see a drop in their rankings.

Google expects that these efforts will collectively decrease such content by 40%, ultimately directing more traffic to helpful and high-quality websites.

2. Updates to Spam Policies

Spam is a big issue online, but Google’s stepping up to fight it!

They’re updating their rules to tackle new tricks that lead to bad stuff showing up in searches.

3. Scaled Content Abuse

Scaled content abuse refers to the practice of creating large volumes of content with little to no value, often using automated or semi-automated methods.

Google is taking action to clean up search results from all that clutter caused by scaled content abuse.

They’re updating their systems and rules to better spot and deal with this kind of spam.

This means when you search for something, you’re more likely to see helpful and reliable results, not just a bunch of useless stuff.

4. Site Reputation Abuse

Site reputation abuse occurs when reputable websites unwittingly host low-quality content from third parties in an attempt to boost their own search engine rankings.

For example, imagine a well-respected health website featuring articles on fitness and nutrition suddenly hosting unrelated content like online casino advertisements.

Google considers this deceptive and due to this reason it’s implementing a new policy to identify and penalize such instances of low-value third-party content.

But here’s the good news: Website owners have a chance to fix things.

Google’s giving them a heads-up with a two-month notice before they start cracking down on May 5th.

5. Expired Domain Abuse

A domain is a unique address on the internet that identifies a website.

Expired domain abuse is when people buy old website addresses that are no longer in use and repurpose them for spammy or low-quality content.

This tactic aims to manipulate search engine rankings by taking advantage of the domain’s existing authority.

For example, someone might buy an expired domain that used to belong to a reputable business and fill it with irrelevant or misleading content to attract traffic.

As per the new Google Core Update, using expired domains to boost the search ranking of low-quality content is now labeled as spam.

What’s the Effect of Google Core Update 2024?

Due to the major core update that we’ve just read, many websites on Google are experiencing a downturn in traffic.

You know why?

Because these sites are putting all their eggs in one basket when it comes to getting visitors: Google search.

Which I personally think isn’t right.

Instead of just depending on one platform, it’s smarter to find different ways to send traffic to your website.

The Solution : How to Get Free Traffic

Diverting ways to get free traffic to your site is the only way to deal with these updates.

And when we talk about free traffic, that too in millions, Pinterest rules the game for sure.

For those who don’t know about this platform — Pinterest is a visual search engine with a user base of more than 450 Million active users.

I’ve also started my online journey as a Pinterest creator and since then I was able to get more than 70 Million Impressions on this platform, all organic!

Author’s Pinterest Analytics

I’d highly recommend trying this social media platform to get FREE traffic.

If you do this, you’ll have a steady stream of natural traffic. And if one source doesn’t work, you’ll have another one ready to go — even better.😊

To help make things easier for you I’ve written a lot of posts specifically focused on Pinterest.
