(The secrets most of the Pinterest creators won’t reveal!)

  • How do you use hashtags?
  • Why do they matter so much?
  • Why does every online guru teach you to use the correct hashtags while posting your content?

If these questions bother you, specifically for Pinterest, then today’s post is going to be really helpful for YOU.

Hashtags are undoubtedly one of the biggest determinants in this online world.

They help categorize content, making it easier for users to find what they’re interested in.

Not only on Pinterest, but on any social media platform, they play a crucial role.

I myself believe that as a Pinterest creator, if I want to expand my reach, then I should do everything aligned with the SEO, including hashtags.

So, in this post I’ll be sharing my personal hashtag strategies with you, which you can implement in your content journey too!

These are the tricks that I’ve picked up along the way and frankly speaking they worked for me😊

Try these strategies, and I’m sure you’ll see some great results — maybe even better than mine!

Before we proceed, if you’ve no idea how to start your online journey on Pinterest, make sure you read the articles I’ve curated in my publication.

Now, let’s get straight into it.

While uploading your pins on Pinterest, you must have seen this uploader. (In case you haven’t posted on Pinterest, this is how the Pinterest uploader looks like⬇️)

If you’re using Tailwind, then the uploader might look different.

To create your pins, you’re supposed to do the following :

  • Give a pin title
  • Write description for the pin
  • Add the destination link
  • Choose the board
  • Choose 10 additional hashtags

You can learn how to post optimized pins through this guide.

When it comes to the 10 additional hashtags, they’re a bit different from the ones you’ve written in your pin’s description.

These extra 10 hashtags won’t be visible on your pin.

That’s the reason why you need to keep in mind certain things mentioned below while using them.

1. Avoid Repeating Hashtags

While choosing the additional 10 hashtags, make it a point not to repeat the same hashtags you’ve used in the pin description.

Because Pinterest already knows what your pin is about from the first set of hashtags.

Repeating them doesn’t help your pin stand out any more.

Instead try to come up with more hashtags that your target audience might search to find the content you’re sharing.

For example, if you’re sharing content related to Selling on Etsy, apart from choosing this single hashtag, also use the more recommended hashtags like — Selling Online.

While people interested in Etsy might search for that, #SellingOnline broadens your reach to anyone looking to sell things online, not just on Etsy.

2. Find Related Hashtags

Sometimes, Pinterest’s search algorithm may not display the exact hashtag you’re expecting based on your keyword.

For instance, if you search ‘SVG,’ the Pinterest algorithm might show ‘Cricut’ and ‘Vinyl’ as similar tags.

This happens because Pinterest tries to match your search with broader tags.

So, if you don’t find the expected hashtag, take some time to think which other keyword resonates with it the most.

Then, put it in the tag section, you’ll see some related hashtags or keywords.

Choose which best defines your content.

3. Choose Keywords Strategically

This is something really important!

Often, when you search for a broad keyword like ‘Marketing’, you may see some popular keyword or hashtags combinations related to your query.

For example, you might see ‘Business Marketing’ and ‘Small Business Marketing’ as suggested hashtags while putting ‘Marketing’ keyword in the search query.

Now, you might think using both hashtags will boost your content’s reach.

But let me explain why that might not be the best idea.

By using two similar hashtags means you miss out on another good one.

Tell me — Which hashtag would you choose — Business Marketing or Small Business Marketing?

In the above-mentioned scenario, I’d opt for — Small Business Marketing hashtag.

Why?

There are two reasons for that⬇️

  • First, I’m reaching out to those people who’re interested in ‘Business Marketing’ because that term is already part of ‘Small Business Marketing.’
  • Second, by including ‘Small,’ I’m also appealing to those people who’re specifically seeking information or content related to marketing for small businesses.

So, using this single hashtag effectively doubles my chances of attracting the right audience.

Final Thoughts🎯

Remember the tricks mentioned above while choosing the 10 additional hashtags, stay consistent, and you’ll definitely start getting success on Pinterest soon!
