Powerbanks are an essential tool for us to recharge our gadgets on the go. They are produced with many variations to its capacity, features and of course, price. All of these are designed to cater to our specific uses and needs. For example, these powerbanks designed specifically as a service for your business’ customers.

Though convenient like all other gadgets, they need certain maintenance and care to keep it functioning for a long time. We’ve all had that happen to us; just a couple of months after buying your new powerbank, already can you see a notable decrease in its capacity and quality. Here are some of the things that you can do to increase the longevity of your powerbank.

  1. Avoid high temperature and humidity

Many of us use powerbanks while it’s being carried in the bag. However, a charging powerbank generates heat, the confined and insulated environment of our bag leads to overheating to where the powerbank is kept. So do try to use your powerbank only when it’s in open space and avoid it to be directly exposed to the sun and humidity.

2. Avoid using your gadget while it’s charging on the powerbank

It’s better to not use your gadget when it’s charging on the powerbank, since it could lead to an instability to the electrical current. This can negatively impact both of your gadget and powerbank, leading to decreased life expectancy.

3. Avoid impact to your powerbank

There are a couple of sensitive components in a powerbank that are possibly liable to impact. Care needs to be taken so that you don’t drop your powerbank recklessly. You could also use a shockproof case or a pouch bag to dampen the impact that your powerbank may take.

4. Avoid recharging too often

It begs to be remembered that a powerbank ought to not be used too often, try to charge it only when its power has completely ran out. Most powerbanks use Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer type batteries. Lithium Ion generally can maintain its quality after around 500 charge cycles. Whereas Lithium Polymer type batteries can do so for 1000 charge cycles, after which their quality drops.

5. Avoid overcharging

Similar to how we avoid charging our phones for too long, we should also avoid overcharging our powerbank. Leaving it to charge overnight is not an ideal conduct, unless the device specifically has an overcharging protection feature.

6. Avoid having it run too low

On the other hand, leaving the powerbank to run too low is also not ideal. Try to be vigilant and immediately charge your powerbank when it has run low.
