Nice summary of agile. I believe it’s partially up to the agile coach to track inclusion and set the tone for topics such as diversity and privilege. Most teams I’ve worked with will focus on efficiency, productivity, and content which is a very safe domain. One thing that is great about all of the rituals that have emerged with agile is there is plenty of opportunity to introduce lightweight practices for example at standups, it’s possible to take a moment expose affinities and differences amongst teams members–recognizing and acknowledging difference is the first step toward inclusion.
Diversity comes in many shades. Teams have a unique opportunity to venture beyond the safety of their team’s unity, content, and common purpose to recognize and differentiate from one another, to embrace their differences, their unique gifts, and expand their capacity to perform at an even greater level–I’d argue greater human level.
Agile coaches with an interest ought to consider taking some diversity training to get exposure and learn what it takes to create safe containers.
