Your “over-self,” for lack of a better word, is incredibly self-aware and articulate. It’s interesting how parts of us develop and other parts get stalled, left behind, almost fossilized. And the “over-self” (I like this word) hides the undeveloped parts and is embarrassed by them. It’s a tough juncture in therapy when the over-self has to humble itself and let the underdeveloped parts into the room. Isn’t it incredible how much we care what someone thinks of us? Like it’s a matter of life or death.
