AESTHETICS IA #4
National Museum: a trip full of expressions

Hi there!! Last Sunday, me and my friends went to The National Museum to witness the beauty of our history, the talents of Filipinos, and to do our task in Aesthet as well. It’s very tiring because we also need to go to CCP to participate in PASINAYA 2016; a celebration of the different arts and talent showcase done here in the Philippines. It’s very tiring of course, but I will never regret that day.
Part of our task is to take a photo of an artwork and make a reflection about it, And here are what I got:
Model of San Diego in 1995

I really want to see something like this. It’s very amazing because according to its definition, it is built in 1/50 scale. Given a chance, I want to know how this thing can be made and how the builder is so focus in making this.
El Asesinato del Gobernador Bustamante

Two of the most fascinating paintings in National Museum are the artworks on their lobby. First is the Spolarium made by Juan Luna, and this artwork made by Felix Hidalgo. What made this special is that according to my research, the creator won the silver medal in a competition that Filipinos are not allowed, Gold medal goes to Spolarium. This painting is made using oil in canvas and it is very controversial because it exposed the assassination of Governor Fernando Manuel Bustamante.
Painted Window of Christ the King

This artwork is made through oil on glass. It is a painting of Christ (middle) and bowing low angels (sides), Gabriel and Raphael. According to its history, C. Amorsolo created this painted window on commission for a private mortuary chapel in Manila after the WWII. When I saw it, and tries to touch it (even though forbidden), you will feel that the painting is done in a glass, and covered by a glass. It’s very amazing and it still looks new when you stare on it.
Landscapes (Various Drawings)

This is made by a simple graphite, pen and ink on paper. Amorsolo is not fond of drawing (irony). In his room in Nat. Museum, he has many drawings that any people, even me can do. It shows that any art piece started on a simple concept, then made to a very wonderful work. If it is just simple, then it motivates all frustrated artist to strive more in what they want.
Showelle

What made this special art work is that it is made through pressing dyed wool. In that room, you will see things on how to make it and I assure you, it’s not easy. The artist will conceptualize the artwork and make a collage of wool then pressed together to compress. It is fascinating to know that these artists are also innovative. They use many tools to do art, and it shows a very creative results.
Fear of Collision and a Tumor in a Bottle

The title is very tricky. It made me think of what is the meaning on it and where is the tumor and the bottle in the painting. Well, I still added it here because it is something that only few can think of it. This painting is made using mixed media on canvas. As you can see at the upper left of the painting, it has pictures pasted to it and I think the 2x2 pic is the painter. He boast himself by adding a picture of him into it. Isn’t amazing?
Justice under Martial Law

This is made through pastel on paper. It depicts the happenings under the administration of Former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos and its Martial Law. It is very negative when you see it because it shows chaos, war, hardships, etc. This painting show that any of us have their freedom of expression. You can paint any protest or any thoughts in your mind. You can make everything you want, and it will help us to see the past and our history.
The artist in his studio in Binangonan, Rizal

I added this because it shows that even a photograph can be an art and expression. In fact, it is pinned on some of the walls of the National Museum, depicting that art is not just painting or sculptures, it can also be a photo or anything that anyone can see and reflect on.

Its been a long day that day. I learned many things and makes me believe that everything can express on their own. You can show art using your face, body, shirt, necklace, shoes, pants, soil, grass, etc. It is an infinite expression. FInally, this trip is wonderful trip. It is an overload of information but I’m happy to be there. You can see it through my smile :)
Signing off…
