And then a fabulous fancy dress parkrun to (temporarily) say goodbye to Rose!

Fancy dress for a very fancy club

Sri Chinmoy 5k Flying Falcon.

FRC were out in force this week at the penultimate run of the Sri Chinmoy summer 5k series! Laure reports ‘Some great PBs set and we had some winners amongst us! No medal but they had a yummy peach!’

Jonathan Chambers said, ‘Fruitful evening out for FRC – 3 prizes out of a posse of 10 zebra pirate runners, great “stripe” rate! A peach of an event!!’ Groan

It was Simon’s first race back since his knee operation which is great news, and Laure absolutely SMASHED her goal of going under 30 mins by nearly a whole minute!

The 3 winners — Rose as second lady (and a PB!), Martin and Jonathan, age category winners.

Fabulous job to all involved by a special mention to Laure who has been working all summer to hit this major milestone.

  • Duncan Lawrence — 00:17:09
  • Rose Penfold — 00:17:53 — PB! 2nd lady!
  • Max Tollemache — 00:18:08
  • Martin Milward — 00:21:28–1st in age group
  • Jonathan Chambers — 00:21:36
  • Francisco Joaquim — 00:22:16
  • Simon Clarkson — 00:24:21
  • Kevin Brown — 00:24:54
  • Judith Clarkson — 00:26:33
  • Laure Sell — 00:29:02 — PB!

Yateley 10k

The unstoppable Stephanie Muzzall took part in the Yateley 10k on Wednesday, winning a lovely shiny trophy in the process! She sends her report below:

Every summer, a little village in Hampshire puts on a summer series of 10ks. Somewhere it was voted best summer 10k series (it might be the only one) — what I will say is it’s less than £40 for all three! Bargain!!

A fast road route with some fun undulations, you can never quite tell what the weather will be like but there’s always Haribo at the end.

The medals are immense and fit together every year. This year’s medals had the last one as a base for a stand for the other two! So clever.

If I’m going to blow my own trumpet, I managed to go sub 44:00 on the final race and win the series prize!! I reckon I got my fees back in Haribo, wine, medals and this baby (pic above)… my first ever!

Fabulous work, well done Stephanie!

Round the Rock

As if taking the series prize in the race above wasn’t enough, that was clearly just a warm up for the 48 mile Ultra race around Jersey that Stephanie had planned in for last weekend. Again, I’ll let her tell it in her own words:

I still don’t think I can say ‘I did Round the rock’ I think the rock did me.

But wow what a race. It’s almost good I hit the deck at 26km, it stopped me racing and made me start taking in the astounding scenery. At one point the heather covered everything, making my whole world including my feet one big purple haze.

This is a gritty not glam ultra, bare minimum on aid stations and markings, it made Centurion races seem like a carnival. But I loved it all the same. You get the race directors’ mobile number and Haribo and Cola at 20,30 and 40 miles (ish)

The race changes each year depending on the tides, taking the sandy (or wading) route can save you 4 miles on the course, and this is allowed.

Despite a couple of nasty falls she alludes to, Stephanie still finished this race in a staggering 8:53:05 and came in 4th lady overall which is just incredible. #trooper

NDW100

This weekend, superstar Nick Marriage followed up the Thames path 100 and the SDW100 with a third top ten finish at the North Downs Way race – having been pipped as one to watch in the race preview.

Starting at 6am on Saturday, he ran from Farnham in Surrey across to Ashford in Kent, joined along the way in the second half by a series of trusty pacers including his lovely wife Maddy.

It was a gripping race to follow, with Nick getting off to a solid start and hitting Box Hill stepping stones (24.6 miles in) in only 3:40 and in 20th position. 25 miles later and he was up to 9th and by mile 82 he was in 5th position which he held to the end.

This result means Nick has won the 2017 ‘Double Downs’ prize for the fastest time to complete the North and South Downs 100s this year, and it means he maintains second place I believe for the overall Centurion Grand Slam of all four 100s — with only the Autumn 100 in October left to go. Put it in your diaries peeps, hitting refresh on your browser continuously for 18 hours has never been so exciting!

  • Nick Marriage — 18:53:54

Hyde Park 10k

Francisco was very pleased with his 10K result in Hyde Park on Sunday. Organised by Run Through, this friendly race is a flat course looping the Serpentine lake and Francisco finished a very impressive 61st out of nearly 460 runners!

  • Francisco Joaquim — 00:47:18

Parkrun

Fulham Palace parkrun

It was a bittersweet day this Saturday as parkrun became a celebration for a couple of club-member milestones (my hundredth and Luke Peel’s fiftieth), but also a farewell to the wonderful Rose who is heading off to Boston to do some doctoring for a year.

Thursday night beers at the monthly social 36 hours before resulted in a last minute plan for a fancy dress event and despite the short notice, you lot were completely up to the challenge!

There was also a STAGGERING amount of cake.

A total of 402 runners took part. Congrats to Katherine, Rachel and Jess for new overall parkrun PBs – all in fancy dress! As well as to Tariq for a new Fulham Palace Best and to Ric for his first ever parkrun!

Oh, and well done Pumfold – for still being First Lady even when dressed as a dinosaur #myhero

There seems to have been a bit of a mix up with the results, as Chris ‘Power Ranger’ Cooper, Andy ‘Cool Runnings’ Stringer and Emanuela ‘bellydancer’ Castlenova are all missing when I know they definitely ran — and those are just the people I remember seeing.

Bob LYNAM. • Francisco JOAQUIM. • Laure SELLE. • Lorraine KELSEY. • Rebecca LISTER were representing FRC as volunteers at FP this week.

But it wasn’t all about Fulham Palace as there were bandits all over the country – here are how the rest of the team got on.

Big kudos to Nick Thomas and Nat Hicks for setting new best ever parkrun times, and to James Clark for his best ever at Wimbledon! Woop woop!
