Why #representationmatters is stupid and somewhat racist

DISCLAIMER: Before you flame me, I just want to state that this is my opinion and I have no malicious intent toward any minority/majority groups. 10% is satire and 90% is my personal opinion. If you want to debate, I will, but lets keep it respectful, thanks.

Lately I’ve been getting more and more into twitter, and in my adventure, I have stumbled across a certain hashtag that bugs me to no end. This, of course, is #representationmatters. Sure, some of it is actually valid and I agree totally like with this: http://www.slate.com/blogs/nightlight/2016/08/02/ezra_jack_keats_the_snowy_day_is_a_model_for_treating_black_characters_in.html .

Alas, sometimes things on this hashtag make me cringe so hard. Like: https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/gay-activists-lobby-disney-to-make-elsa-a-lesbian-in-frozen-2

or https://diply.com/love-eat/article/jk-rowling-loves-casting-black-hermione .

I recently red an article by an Asian woman about how someone who was not Asian presented the new Apple Watch feature in Chinese. She also proceded to complain that all of the snapchat executives are white. You can read it here: https://medium.com/@katie/im-deleting-snapchat-and-you-should-too-98569b2609e4#.9kdx5216r .

The problem I have with this is that the people pushing all of this diversity stuff don’t understand how running a company works. The only diversity that matters in these situation is ability and intellectual diversity. If you are hiring, you don’t hire someone because of their skin color. You hire them for their ability to work and how they handle things. If you want diversity so bad, the people hiring would literally only be doing it because of the person’s skin color. That’s extremely hypocritical and just plain stupid.

And with the Elsa thing, what the actual heck? Why does it even matter if Elsa is gay or not? She’s a good person and that is why so many people like her. By putting labels on things like that, you’re only separating us more. Also, if Disney decides to humor you, you’ll just find something else to complain about. When will it end?

On to Hermione, again, what the heck? Why would you take a character that’s previously white and change it just for representation..? Sure I’m all for black people in plays and films, but you don’t need to change the previous race of characters just to please people.

Okay I’m done now.
