Adverse Effects of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome on Women’s Health

INTRODUCTION

PCOS is one of the most widely spreading problems in women of childbearing age. It causes an abnormal increase in the production of androgen, anovulation, and the appearance of many small cysts in the ovaries.

Its major risk factors are family history, obesity, increased level of insulin, insulin resistance, unhealthy eating, fatty diet, sugary drinks .

Polycystic ovarian syndrome adversely affects women’s health by causing acne, hirsutism, irregular periods, loss of hair, weight gain, and infertility. Women with PCOS have a high probability of developing type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and uterine cancer. PCOS is one of the causes of low self-esteem in women as acne, hirsutism male pattern baldness decrease their confidence and they avoid going to public gatherings. Women can overcome this problem through healthy lifestyles (yoga, exercise), clean eating, seed cycling, gluten-free diet, oral contraceptive pills, glucose-lowering agents, and laser and electrolysis for hirsutism.
