Speaker At google I/O Recap 2019

I love attending Google Events. I have always found them very informative and inspiring. These events are not only informative but they provide a great chance to network with the people from similar industry and interests.

27 July , I attended my first ever tech event as a speaker at Google I/O Recap 2019.

WomenInTechPK hosted the Google I/O Recap 2019 at 10 Pearls University in Karachi. The full-day event was designed to bring together female technologists of the city, including members from WomenInTechPK community, students and graduates of CodeGirls. The event was attended by more than 50 female technologists including both students and professionals.

WomenInTechPK is a Pakistan-based community focused on helping women get access to education, employment, peer to peer mentoring and networking opportunities. Their mission is to help create an inclusive environment for women technologists in Pakistan.

The agenda included keynotes enlighten the audience with the tech talks covering multiple topics, hands-on learning with experts, Google’s mSite certification workshop and product demos from local entrepreneurs and techies.

My idea behind sharing my experience here is to encourage other tech newbies to step out, attend such tech events and also share their knowledge with other professionals so that we all can grow together as a community.

My presentation was about Flutter Driver – The final destination. So the basic overview of my topic was an introduction to Flutter, Google’s open-source mobile application development framework and how to perform integration testing using flutter driver.

The inclination of speaking both excites & scares me.

It all began when I somehow worked up the courage to submit my talk’s proposal. I did so with the intention of documenting my complete experience as a newbie speaker if I were selected and guess what I was selected! I had 2 weeks to prepare my presentation and also prepared myself to present.

When I saw the announcement about my talk on multiple social media platform I was literally on the cloud 9 yet nervous like anything. I put all my efforts to prepare myself for the big day. Finally the day arrived. I reached at venue 1 hour earlier. I was waiting anxiously and then my name was announced, entranced I went to the stage, connected my Mac with projector screen. The organizer handed over me the clicker so I could switch my slides easily. The total duration of my presentation was 15 – 20 minutes. I performed live demonstration of the code. I also explained about flutter and how easy it is to automate and perform integration testing for an applications created on flutter by using flutter driver.

The overall experience was remarkable, and I was thrilled that I finally ticked off another item on my bucket list.
