The Principle of Withholding

Two days ago, while skeeting about my personal experience, I coined this concept on Bluesky.

I’m too available and people take advantage of it, but life is too short to be living under The Principle of Withholding. It’s a waste of our corporal time here imo.

I’m firm it’s not The Withholding Principle but The Principle of Withholding, by definition.

What do I mean with The Principle of Withholding?

  • When you could be speaking to a real person from customer service but instead get a robot and buttons to press? That falls under The Principle of Withholding.
  • When in a romantic setting, flirting, someone likes you but doesn’t say so even though they’re sure they do like you? The Principle of Withholding.
  • When as a kid the teacher made you wait doing absolutely nothing (which as a result made you feel antsy) because you finished the assignment fast and the others didn’t and you’re not even allowed to do a quiet activity like say, drawing, reading? Again The Principle of Withholding.
  • We could have UBI, it’s been proven it would cost less than what we’re doing now: The Principle of Withholding.
  • It’s harder and harder to get medical treatment (long waitlist, no you can’t get your meds for more than a month at a time etc.): The Principle of Withholding.

The Principle of Withholding is a systemic behavior and line of thinking, that stems from a mix of religious rigor, selfishness, vanity, misplaced morals, jealousy, misogyny, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, fear, inability to see the big picture*.

It’s fucking everywhere and it’s making everyone miserable.

Be better.

*life is really short and we all die.
