Great article. Here are my thoughts on what I feel makes something Instagram-worthy or instagrammable.
I feel a post is Instagram-worthy if it is something that makes you feel good that you want to share with others: an experience or memory that stands out to you that you feel others might also benefit from. Unlike other social media sites, Instagram allows others to showcase their creativity a bit more, whether it is through photography, art, or written prose.
I use Instagram daily. It adds excitement to my otherwise hohum days of living and working in desert suburbia and helps me relax after a long day. I enjoy hearing about what others are up to or where they have recently traveled.
I think posts are great for sharing your experiences, but stories are really what take away from living in the moment - feeling the constant need to check stories before they disappear within the 24 hour window. I know I am guilty of that sometimes.
I take a lot of pictures, which may suggest that at times I am not living in the moment. But the truth is I enjoy photography, and capturing photos only enhances those moments for me. I am a very nostalgic person, so I think it is important to capture memories. Memories fade over time, so it is nice to be able to look back on good times or valuable experiences. I don’t do it for attention. Instead, I use it as an online scrapbook to save the important memories dear to my heart.
I used to tend to think a lot about the future but as I get older, I try to stay more in the present these days. Instagram helps remind us of what it was like to live in that particular moment.
