Interacting with time should be easy, accessible, friendly, fulfillment, personalize-able, and lastly but definitely be fun!

Have you ever used a monthly planner book like below in school or work?

Then have you ever felt there’s so much words on the planner that your eyes are feeling tired on which to focus on and started to draw a circle around or a star besides important events?

Or you might started to use highlighter pens to categorize/ emphasize events that you do not want to miss out (like below)?

However, in theses days when we are switching our practice of using the big hardcopy monthly planner book to the Calendar App in our smartphone, just because our smartphone is so small in size that makes it convenient to bring around at any time; We loss the fun & customization of using our personal taste of colors and icons or even style to categorize/emphasize the events on the calendar.

Introducing **Fun Label** ~~~

A new functionality of “labeling” for your Samsung S Planner App!

“Fun Label” enables calendar event categorization in the Samsung S Planner App. A “label’ is a way of using text formatting or a picture(icon) on the event to emphasize it on the electronic monthly planner.

========================================

The journey of **Fun Label**

========================================

The first idea for the customization of the label is to enable users to change/add

  1. Text color
  2. Text highlight color (or the color of the text’s background)
  3. Emphasis such as Bold, Italic and Underline
  4. Small icons/ pictures as stickers

for the event title displayed on the monthly planner screen.

During the creation of electronic prototype, I decided to change the idea of emphasis by “Bold, Italic, Underline” to font (e.g. Arial, Comic Sans,etc..).

But after in-person testing with my three fellow peers, the feedback shows font is not a good idea, and emphasis with “Bold, Italic” is more preferred.

And so…

Next, I have conducted online testing and the feedback prompts me to change

  1. Location of the “Label” button from lower section of the screen to the top (right hand side of the event title input box)
  2. Utilize the Android phone built-in menu button to show a pop up screen to enable edit/delete mode for the labels.
Location of the button to be at the top (right hand side of event title input box)
“Select Label” screen when not in Edit/Delete mode
“Select Label” screen when in Edit/Delete mode

And so, the finalized prototype is at https://invis.io/EZA4MRUNG

With my last paragraph here, I would like to say thanks to all my peers who have contributed to this journey, and to you, for reading my articles to the end. Thank you!
