That definitely partially explains the gap. The issue is though that women in most cases already start bellow men, so they are in disadvantage from the get-go.

What is interesting about these salaries that they are requested, not offered and thus this is how women value their own work. What I am wondering is, what would be reaction of employers if women start asking for a matching salary, even after a maternity leave (or any longer period out of the labor market).
