To be Friendless

Do not despair. To be friendless is indeed to be unfortunate; but the hearts of men, when unprejudiced by any obvious self-interest, are full of brotherly love and charity. Rely, therefore, on your hopes; and if these friends are good and amiable, do not despair.

Modest Dance, Gift, & Talent

"All talent,' wrote, Anne Brontë, ‘increase in the using, and every faculty, both good and bad, strengthens by exercise." So also all modest dance and sundry gifts vouchsafed to your stewardship, done to the glory of God, must not be put off because of shame and fear of man.

Bodily Pleasure

It is the nature of all bodily pleasure to punish those who enjoy it. Like the bee after its honey is given, it flees away, leaving its lingering sting in the hearts it has struck. You are wise and know how to apply.

Deep, Dark, Death-Like Solitude

But I — I was a wretch, and none ever conceived of the misery that I then endured. I shunned the face of man; all sound of joy or complacency was torture to me; solitude was my only consolation — deep, dark, death-like solitude.

Look to Christ

"The LORD said to Moses, "Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live." So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, he lived. The Israelites moved on and camped at Oboth." - Numbers 21.

Dear reader, look to Christ. Always. Whomsoever you are. Look to Christ. It is in Christ the Solid Rock in which we stand Certain and Sure. He is your only hope in life and death. Look to Christ, I beseech thee!

“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:14–15).
