In the summers during my childhood, my cousins used to come over to go swimming (we had an above ground pool in our backyard), and every time we would eat Kraft Macaroni & Cheese and hot dogs. The mac and cheese was almost always shapes (even though I prefer original), and very often from some Nickelodeon show like Spongebob SquarePants or Fairly Odd Parents.
Our moms would sit in the house, or sometimes on the deck of the pool to get some sun, and just talk for hours. Because of this, and because we lived so close to them, we treated our cousins more like brothers and sisters. Our cousins and my family still all live within a 20 mile radius of each other in Ohio, except for me of course, who lives all the way out in San Francisco. I always look forward to seeing them when I go back to Ohio, and when I do, it’s almost like no time has passed at all; we all pick back up right where we left off.
I miss them a lot, but I can always have some Kraft mac and cheese or a hotdog to bring me right back to the summers of my childhood.
As part of my New Year’s resolutions, I have set out on a goal of publishing at least one post on Medium each week. I hope you enjoyed this week’s writing, and thank you for reading!
