If you frequent Medium, you’ve seen hundreds of posts with a similar title. I’ve read a lot of them, and they usually have some kernel of a good piece of advice. I’d like to reiterate the best piece of advice, the one I’ve found the most true:

Be honest and authentic

I wrote the LinkedIn update because it was true. I’ve been working in the legal department of a global corporation for a few years, and everything seems to revolve around an Excel pivot table or a “deck for senior management” done in Powerpoint. We never learned any of that in law school. I’m not even sure I opened Excel during my three years in law school. But when you graduate from school and move into the “real world,” all of a sudden the full Microsoft Office suite is a job requirement, not a “nice to have.”

My experiences made me think, and apparently it made other people think, too, about what should be on the curriculum for students. In 6 days, the post of over 5,000 views and 30 comments. What are your thoughts? Connect with me, let me know, and lets continue the conversation on LinkedIn
