It’s not apathy, it’s disgust. Why should I throw my support behind policies I find loathsome? All of the remaining candidates are pro-war, they all plan to keep stealing from my generation with shameless deficits, and they’ll all continue increasing the power of the Presidency far past my comfort level before handing the Oval Office to some other partisan hack to do the same. Low turnout is just about the most threatening thing that can happen to a politician. It means their government has no mandate; it’s a way of reminding them that the Sword of Damocles is hanging above their head by a single hair. Don’t tell me I’m fine with the world going to hell. I’m not the one telling people to pick their favorite tyrant.
