Despite all the rugged mountains and snow-capped alps, Bosnia remains to be a some-what of an off-beaten corner of the gigantic Europe continent. The country is flooded with beautiful places to visit and is incredible in nature, but again not many know about it. Being a part of the Balkan Peninsula, it’s temperature and climate is always in favor of its visitors.

Check out a list of places you can visit, that may change your entire perception about this country. From the wild, to the bustling cities along the way, Bosnia and Herzegovina has got it all.

1. BASCARSIJA IN SARAJEVO

The old town center of the capital city of Sarajevo, is a place that is always filled with tourists who are willing to explore the narrow streets that cut through the old houses, mosques and bazaars.

Bascarsija has many important historical buildings and was built in the 15th century. Bascarsija is a Turkish word in which “bas” means “head” and “carsi” means “bazaar” or “market”. Due to a large fire incident in the 19th century, the town remains to be half of what it earlier was.

2. THE OLD TOWN OF BLAGAJ

It is a small town that is situated at the spring of the Buna river and is a spot that is enticing. It begins from the cliff and bends over the fresh river spring that end up towards many restaurants that offer a calm environment to relax in and good food to eat.

It is one of the most valuable structures of Bosnia and Herzegovina that are a mix of urban and rural structures that are way too different from the urban structures. And certainly, Blagaj is most likely known for its mild weather.

3. THE FORTRESS IN JAJCE

The fortress of Jajce was built in the 14th century by the founder of the city of the Jajce.

Jajce was the seat of the kings who had their names engraved on the castle. The castle strongly reflects the power of the Ottoman Empire. It is often over looked since it is a bit far away from any of the tourist spot.

Jajce Fortress has been the royal capital and the last territorial possession of the entire Kingdom of Bosnia.

4. THE OLD BRIDGE OF MOSTAR

Stari Most also known as the Old Bridge is one of the 16th century construction that is an Ottoman bridge in the city of Mostar. The bridge connects two parts of the city of Mostar and has stood there since 427 years until it was destroyed in the year 1993. The bridge was then reconstructed in the year 2003.

It is the country’s most recognizable landmark and is considered an exemption of Balkan Islamic architecture and was built with metal pins and the plaster that was made out of egg whites.

5. MAGLIC MOUNTAINS

One of the highest peak of the country, Maglic mountains create surroundings that are more than just being rich. It is an optimal place for camping as well as mountain biking or hiking.

The trails of the mountains connect the visitors with warm and hospitable people and allow them to explore food and music and witness the old heritage that still exists in this corner of Europe.

At an elevation of over 2,386m, Maglic has a spring of water that is considered rare at such an altitude.

6. KRAVICE WATERFALLS

One of the well-known summer tourists spot of Bosnia and Herzegovina, these waterfalls are considered a mini-version of the Iguazu Falls that are hidden in the Balkan region.

One of the most beautiful sight of the country, Kravice Waterfalls have two sides for its visitors — the summer calmness and the winter wild. And, both of them have their own unique charm. During the summer season, Kravice gives visitors an array of refreshments and the natural pools surrounding the falls are a good option to escape the heat.

Near the waterfalls is a small cave made of calcium carbonate, an old mill and a sailing that can all be admired.
