So, it’s been a moment since I wrote on here. Jumping into the deep end of code has ensured that time is never on my side — I spend all day at Makers and then in the evenings indulge in a good book(currently James Clavell’s King rat) or nerd out on the ‘Practical Object Oriented Design in Ruby’ by Sandi Metz. I’m loving it. It’s a wonderful feeling to learn something new every day and realise this change. There’s a world of difference between my abilities from just yesterday compared to today. Though there have been struggles along the way, I know I definitely am on the right path.

Moving on though, what are my takeaways till now? Code related — to take my time, plan out the project and MAINLY to focus on the core functionality before delegating and expanding the functions. Still struggling on isolating my tests enough to make them useful but this is something I imagine will happen with a bit of time and practice. As for a life related takeaway, it’s to know when to pull out. I find it exciting to learn how the code comes together and can become so engrossed by it that I forget to keep a track of the time. Breaks help!! A couple of minutes every hour or so to allow the mind a break helps stray away from mental fatigue. That and of course, a bit of exercise, eating healthy and being social. It’s important to be reminded that there is a world out there, beautiful reasons for a smile, inspiration or maybe just some good company.

Having started this immersion in code, I’ve found myself to be inspired again. I stopped writing for a long time and now, find that I have found my pen again.

May I have this dance

This one last dance

Hold you close, my one last chance

Hold you close, our final dance
