A Christian Supporter of the LGBTQ+ Community.
On Wednesday, July 26th, President Trump tweeted the following:
This decision has nothing to do with “medical costs”, policy, or politics. His choice is based solely off of hate. I am dumbfounded not only at his supporters continuous support of his hateful rhetoric but also at the individuals who vocally express their approval of his hateful statements in the name of Christ.
While it may shock some of you, it is possible to be a Christian and support the LGBTQ+ community. In fact, the Bible tells us so:

John 3:16 — For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
This is one of the most well-known bible scriptures. God loved the world so much that he sacrificed his only son so that we may have eternal life. As if that wasn’t enough, Jesus was sent to this world not to express disapproval or punishment, but to save it by us believing in him. Ladies and Gentleman, supporting or directing hateful rhetoric towards the LGBTQ+ community is not Christian behavior.
Matthew 22:37–39 is another well-known scripture. These verses contain red writing — so they’re kinda important:
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself”. — Matthew 22:37–49
In this scripture, Jesus is responding to the question “Which command in the law is the most important?”. Jesus continues to say that all of the law and the writings of the prophets take their meaning from these two commands. This means that our most important roles as sons and daughters of Christ are to love God and love people. Individuals in the LGBTQ+ community are people.
Supporting our LGBTQ+ neighbors with the same love God shows us does not mean that we ourselves have to be apart of that community.
If you’re like me, you see your neighbors once or twice a week; greet each other with the occasional “hello”, then you return to your own home. This is how you should treat every cause you do not agree with. Love them unconditionally like God loves you, then return to your own home and be concerned with your own household. God does not condemn us for our choices, instead, he shows us love. We should do the same.
I do not approve of President Donald Trump banning transgender men and women from serving this country. It is not Christian behavior; it is wrong and it is un-American.
