“ This is yet another reason why it’s incredibly harmful for Kali Uchis to portray herself as a brown Latina. She doesn’t have to experience the hardships that are unique to Latinx of color because her complexion gives her privilege.”

What is the difference between her getting a tan and her portraying herself as a brown Latina? I mean, she is half Columbian right? So if she likes tanning her skin to be brown, then isn’t she just a brown Latina straight up?

And if you can get beyond that, you just state that her having brown skin and “pretending” to be a brown skinned Latina (which she factually is IMO), is harmful because she does not have the experiences of brown skinned people (nice generalization there). What is the warrant for your conclusion that it is harmful?

IMO your article just half-assedly calls someone out for harming people without giving any actual examples of harm. Unless I am missing something here…
