There are many different types of tactical operators, but for me, there are three main types that stand out, and that’s what I want to discuss today!

But first, what are tactical operators?

Tactical operators are the people who possess the knowledge, skill, and training necessary to perform a specific task successfully while following a plan that’s prepared in anticipation using intelligence and counter surveillance.

Types of Tactical Operators

Type 1: The Wannabe Tactical Operators

The wannabe tactical operators are those who don’t have the right training, and they don’t have the appropriate tactical mindset to be successful at their job.

Being a tactical operator is not a game. This is not Call of Duty; this is real life, there’s real risk involved, and there are many factors to consider in any given situation. It’s dangerous to go in pretending that you can wing it because you can quickly ruin someone’s life in the process.

In other words; wannabe tactical operators don’t do the work, they act like they know what they’re doing, but more often than not, they’re unprepared, and they don’t have the training or experience that they should.

Type 2: The Seasoned Tactical Operators

Seasoned tactical operators are those who have professional training and who dedicate themselves entirely to preparing for all kinds of situations.

Seasoned tactical operators include SWAT teams, Army Rangers and Navy Seals. Being tactical operators is their full-time job, so they’re constantly preparing and training for situations where they’re needed so they can accomplish the task or mission.

Type 3: The Unseasoned Tactical Operators

These kind of tactical operators are those who don’t have any other choice but to fulfill the duties of tactical operators in any given situation. I fit into this category because my department is small, which means we have limited resources and manpower.

If there’s an active shooter in our jurisdiction or if there’s a warrant that needs to be executed, we have to do it ourselves. This doesn’t mean we’re pretending to be operators; we have the law enforcement skills that allow us to cover these needs and we have to train before we can even apply and become tactical operators for the department.

In my case, we supply our own weapons and training, but what’s important is that we have the will to go out there and put ourselves on the line to defend and protect people in need.

Now, could we call a SWAT team to do these things for us when we need it? Yes, we could. The problem with that is coordination. Sometimes time is pressing, and SWAT teams are engaged, so we have to step up and go in ourselves to avoid a bigger issue.

If you want to learn more about the duties of tactical operators and if you want to see my equipment and know what my training is like, I invite you to watch the complete episode here!
