I miss windows CE. She was a good operating system with what I would call a couple of UX software faults, that were easily fixed with hardware (i.e. physical keyboard FTW!).
I remember way back when I could use my phone/pda to edit documents while my iOS friends could just click “pretty” icons that didn’t really do anything. My Android friends phones either had dead batteries or had already clicked an icon and was waiting for something to happen (Android V1.0 can rot in hell).
Win7_Phone was a travesty. Even though the average phone at this point could run a dumbed down version of Windows 7…… Win7_phone basically had nothing to do with Windows 7 except look. Why give me an OS that looks like it would be useful only to punch me in the face with the fact that there was nothing in common except a UI. WinCE I could build custom apps (or easily port desktop apps!), Win7_Phone I was told that I could only build for that OS and nothing could be ported. You basically told us that we should code like the Apple iOS idiots but for a smaller market share. Thanks to Apple and Microsoft the world basically got told that all the engineers in the world couldn’t get their shit together and make portability — so they looked to the internet for saviour, thus native apps died and made way for mobile internet / responsive / cloud. (If you still make native apps, I still love you.
WinCE opened a window to a new world of technology, it showed us something could be done on both our phone and computer without conversion. Win7_Mobile made us feel raped. That is what killed the microsoft phone.
