In a harrowing incident that has shaken the Atlanta community, a 19-year-old was fatally shot, and two others were critically injured in a targeted drive-by shooting on Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard SW. The Atlanta Police Department is urgently searching for the gunmen responsible for this unprovoked attack, which occurred shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday near Windsor Street SW.

Responding officers discovered three young men, aged between 19 to 21, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite rapid medical intervention, one victim succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. The other two, found conscious and communicating with officers, are currently receiving medical treatment.

The victims, in a desperate attempt to escape, collapsed just yards from Kanesha King’s home. King, recounting the horror, initially mistook the gunshots for fireworks. “It was only when I stepped outside that I realized the grim reality,” she said, finding one young man critically injured on her porch and two others in her yard.

The incident has left the neighborhood in shock. Makayla, a local resident familiar with the victims, expressed her grief: “We grew up together. It’s heartbreaking. We need to stop this senseless violence and put the guns down.”

Echoing this sentiment, King added, “It’s not just our neighborhood; it’s a worldwide issue. The abundance of guns is alarming.”

As the APD Homicide Unit delves deeper, piecing together the circumstances leading to this tragic event, the community is left mourning and calling for change. The names of the victims have not been released, but the impact of this tragedy resonates beyond names and faces, touching the heart of the Atlanta community.

For those affected by gun violence, resources and support are available through local community centers and helplines. The Atlanta community stands together in this time of grief, urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward, as they collectively seek justice and healing.
