It is a silly test, but… Are you alive? Let’s do a quick check.

You’re alive when every fiber of your body is livid with stimuli. Let’s check your auditory perceptions, just for starters. Can you hear:

Groans the house makes?

Creaking of the furniture?

The murmur of the lectrical appliances?

The humming of the computer?

Animal sounds?

Weather sounds?

Trucks, cars, trains, planes, skateboards criss-crossing the space nearby?

The kitchen/bathroom/ bedroom noises people make?

Have you just heard at least one sound you had never heard before? Or heard a familiar sound in a new way?

If so, congrats.

You’ve discovered how to live here and now, giving your world your loving attention.

A close attention to the sounds coming from outside is a loving attention. Why not pay an equally loving attention to your inner sounds? Can you hear:

The static in your ears?

You heartbeat?

The rumbling, grumbling, and sliding of your innards?
