Take a walk outside, it’s good for you.
I woke up early this morning, picked up my phone and browsed around Facebook. I stumbled upon a video called Kid 101. It was a comparison between two children of the privilege vs. the strive. In the beginning of the video, process was similar: both kids wake up in the morning, get ready for school, eat breakfast and hug their parents before they’re off. The difference came forth after :45 seconds which was the travel from home to school. The girl on the left took easily about 10 minutes to get to school. On the other hand, the boy on the right took roughly 2.5 hours to get to school.
The video preceded as a negative connotation. From reading off these comments, some people see this as an inspiration, some people looked at the child with sympathy or sadness, some people see this as gratitude and that America should be LUCKY because everything around us is convenient.
I watched it over and over again. I saw it as,
“Damn that kid on the right, he’s lucky to do that hike, everyday.”
Nature teaches you something.
Everyone learns something new from being outside. I know I do. I’ve asked to many outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, climbers, skiers and all of how their trip went. I get the same response from everyone,
“It was amazing!”
“It was fun! The weather was slightly bad, but we still had a great time!!”
Imagine doing that everyday 5 hours. I ask, would that walk change a person? If all the kids in the world actually started hiking to school, would they exceed greater things? Would they be happy? Would they learn better?
I’ve noticed a few characters that caught my attention. The kid did not struggle during that walk because he had a smile on his face. I saw happiness, determination, bravery and strength. These are the characters that kids should learn and school doesn’t teach that.
