How to manage time effectively?

How many times in your life have you heard phrases like, I am short of time, I am strapped for time, I need more time, I am running out of time, and how much time is left? Innumerable times, I bet.

Why is it that our whole life revolves around time?

Why is someone or the other always complaining about the lack of time?

Time is the most valuable commodity. The saying that time is like a river is absolutely correct because just like the time that has passed, the stream of water that flows from one place will never pass there again. People nowadays are in a race against time and in the majority of the cases, they fail. This is because they have a time-management problem.

One thing that you need to understand is that each and every one of us has exactly twenty-four hours in a day, a second is the same for everyone and how you choose to make use of it depends on yourself. All you need to do is optimize the time that you have and make the most of it.

Here’s how you can do that:

Plan ahead

You need to make a timetable for yourself. Take a look at your schedule and allocate the free time that you have to the important things. You will be amazed to see how much you can accomplish by just doing this.

Stop wasting your time

Ask yourself the following questions before indulging in any activity. Is this something that I really want to do? Am I focusing my energy on the right thing? Should I do this when I am already doing something else? While you should push yourself to your limits in order to become a better version of yourself, you must not waste your precious time and energy on things that don’t matter, like spending hours on social media platforms. Set your priorities and chase your dreams in a systemized way.

Multi-task

Learn to focus, and effectively, do more than one task at a time. For instance, if you are commuting to work, you can catch up on your email, read the news, set appointments or do anything else that is important. Just by multi-tasking, you’ll see that your days are not too crunched and that you are able to meet deadlines easily.

Set short-term goals to achieve success in the long-term

Divide and conquer is the key here. All you need to do is breakdown a big project that either you want to work on or are working on, into smaller tasks. Then, work daily according to the requirements and you’ll be able to finish on-time.

Remember that worrying about the future or staying in the past is not going to help you. All you need to do is to live in the present and utilize the time efficiently that you have right now
