To tweet or not to tweet that is the question ?
Twitter is one of newer forms of digital communication that is used on a global scale. Twitter is still new to me and I have only starting using it recently because of university requirements and assessments. Twitter takes an indirect approach that allows likeminded blogger to share and retweet links and add their own flavour or opinion to blogs and links. Twitter can be as direct and indirect as your choose. Twitter helps blogger to express personal and non-personal issues and make it known on a wider level.
Teachers and students alike on twitter would have very different opinions and interest, blogs and tweets but that is acceptable because it so impersonal. The only similarity would be that the teacher and student are both based in school settings, while a teacher would use twitter for sharing class room activities and educational purpose also would help share with likeminded people and extracting things that would help them to utilises in a classroom and also things that could help them facing everyday challenges.
The majority of students purpose for twitter accounts would be on a personal level and the minority would care for the real issues in a our modern society, whilst others would be so caught up with the latest trends and gossip with celebrities whilst the real news goes unseen. I believe for students twitter can be a very negative form of social media because it adds to the teen image of perfection depression is on the rise and is not helping the youth to accept that we are all different and all come from different countries, races and socio-economical backgrounds.
Imagine a world without digital technology and communications, whilst twitter can be seen on one hand as a negative it also can be a used a positive. we also need to be mindful of trolls and that everyone is entitle to their own opinion and in fact is the world we live in with a modern day an age with digital communications on the rise especially in a school setting. we need to be mindful that with everything comes with pros and comes.
As an educator I would use twitter to share helpful blogs or things that would interest me on a personal learning level, and in turn would keep an open mind for other educators to use.
