Beginning from his recent shoot of the beauty queen’s engagement announcement to capturing a movie poster, this Filipino photographer from Manila named Rodney Torres is making a mark in the world of photography in every possible manner. He describes himself as a dramatic photographer who gladly accepts commercial assignments from just any part of the world.

He is a self-taught photographer who dedicates a larger part of his time in learning and then applying all the new ideas and techniques to his photography.

People usually ask him, “Where have you been hiding your skills all these years?”

Rodney says that people ask him when and how he decided to take photos of the people after becoming a family man and businessman after all these years. I wonder, “Does it really matter, what age one is before one decides to be a photographer?”

“For me”, he says, “the answer is NO.” Age is not at all a determining factor in this regard. What matters is one’s talent and skills in this challenging photography industry.

Well, to be honest, Rodney’s work is a practical proof of the fact that you need to have skills to be accepted and respected in the industry.

Rodney spent his education years in Ateneo de Manila University. It is one of the top schools in the Philippines which is located in Katipunan, Quezon City. From 1984 to 1992, he stayed in the elementary school before he shifted to Ateneo High School from 1992 to 1996. His attended college from Ateneo de Manila University from 1996 to 2000. From grade school to his college life, he was a consistent honour student.

During the freshman year in high school, Rodney as a member of the Ateneo table tennis team, won the PAYA, UAAP, and the PRADA championships. He also served as president of his class too. These were the years that trained him to be independent and a responsible individual. He says that he has always been a studious student. He says that he used to always raise a question about whatever he used to study to test himself his mastery of the subjects. He would continue to study to subject matter again and again until he masters them.

Unlike the other photographers in the Philippines, Rodney began his career little late. Most of his peers had been in the industry longer than him.

Rodney claimed that he wanted to take photography seriously after he graduated in the year 2000. However, he entered the corporate world after getting his college degree. He has worked for San Miguel Corporation and Coca Cola Bottlers Philippines, Inc.

His journey with photography began when he bought himself a Canon EOS 350D DSLR camera as a means to release the stress from his monotonous routine. He loved traveling during his free time which developed to become a travel photographer. After some time, he shifted his focus to becoming a fine art printmaker to eventually becoming a professional photographer.

Rodney Torres entered the industry really quite late in his life. However, his young career as a portrait photographer has produced these nice high impact dramatic photographs. You may view his current portfolio via his official site: Rodney Torres Photography.
