As soon as they begin to care deeply about someone, many men will retreat into the safety of monogamy because they can get their needs met without having to be open about their emotions.
Why Do Men Claim To Want Open Relationships More Than Women?

Can men really get their needs met without being open about their emotions? I suspect that monogamy allows for an approximation of meeting needs through the sort of emotional innuendo that is possible in a society steeped in social norms around said monogamy. That is, if popular culture talks about what men’s needs are and portrays the solutions, men need only reference the culture rather than explicitly say what they need. But this strikes me as facile and untrue.
