Negotiation Means Listening (Short Video)

What brings us closer together or further apart from each other and our goals? Two books in particular have opened my eyes to the neurophysiological underpinnings and practical application of negotiation, whether it be with toddlers, terrorists, or anyone in-between.

No-Drama Discipline: The Whole-Brain Way to Calm the Chaos and Nurture Your Child’s Developing Mind, by Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson is a sequel to The Whole Brain Child.

Never Split the Difference: Negotiating as if Your Life Depended on It, by Chris Voss and Tahl Raz comes from Voss’ career as an international hostage negotiator for the FBI.

These books inspired me enough to give a talk at Ignite Denver 26 (June 8, 2017). I cover just three tips from Voss’ book and the underlying neuroscience of why they work from Siegel and Payne.
