THE ORPHANS CROSS

Now our days we live in a world where there are more orphans than we can control. We can find orphans in every part of the world. For those who don’t know who orphans are, and the challenges they go through in life, in this article I will tell you more about orphans and orphans cross.
some years ago, by the name mankaa. She approached me and pleaded with me, to help her cross the road. I noticed that she was looking so dirty, her clothes were not only old but torn as well worst of all she was moving bear feeted. She Some years ago, I had an encounter in the street, with a young lady, who was thirteen was actually having a lot of old objects in her hands, that is objects like; used bottles, old spoons and other things.

Immediately, I started bombarding her with many questions. I was like, hey! little what are you doing in the street at 12 noon, while your mates are in school? why are you looking so shabby and dirty? Where are your parents? And why do you have this cranky look like a child who has not been eating? And what are you doing with all this old bottles?
The little girl looked at me in the eyes and told me, this were her words, she said” I have never been to school, I don’t have parents to send I and my younger brother to school and to give us a home as well, we live in an abandoned car near the market, I go out to pick this bottles every day, and I sell them to the women in the market, by so doing, I can be able to provide food, and buy drugs for my brother and I. and the rest of the money, I safe it up in a little box, for I will used it in due time to sponsor my brother and myself to school, so that our dreams of becoming a doctor and an engineer will be accomplished someday. For this is the cross I have to carry as an orphan.” Immediately she said this words, she burst into tears.
When I heard her words, my heart wept, I fell sorrow and pity for this child. One thing that touched me from her confession was when she said “for this is the cross I have to carry as an orphan” I began asking myself who is an orphan and what is the meaning of an orphan’s cross?
As you read below, you will be discovering the meaning of this two words.
WHO IS AN ORPHAN
An orphan is a child either without a mother or father or without both parents, this could be either be as a result of them losing their parents through death or being abandoned by their parents.
WHAT DOES AN ORPHAN CROSS SIGNIFIES?
Orphan cross are simply the challenges this group Of persons in the society go through in other to survive. It is often said, that
“one can never understand the situation of another person unless you place yourself in that person’s shoe.”
They do not understand the challenges or difficulty this group of persons go through that is why they turn to neglect them. But thanks to the government and groups of humanitarian Organizations that are doing their best to help these children.
THE CHALLENGES THEY GO THROUGH
Research have shown that orphans, have two major challenges. That is the physical and emotional problem. When you have an opportunity to talk with this children, you realize that they all face the same physical and emotional problem.
PHYSICAL CHALLENGES
The physical challenges include:

Maltreatment; most of this orphan children, especially those at the tender age, receive a lot of maltreatment from family members or guardians due to their vulnerable start. They experience:
- Discrimination
- inferiority complex
- physical torture
- the right to education is being taken away
Excess Hardship; Some of this children who manage to survive on their own without The intervention of family members or friends or guidance, are not exempted from the hardships of life. Most of them at their tender ages, end up in the street as street children. They go about begging, to have what to eat, sleep under trees under the cold due to lack of shelters. Most of this children, are being molested in the street, some raped due to their vulnerable situations.

Notwithstanding the fact that we have some orphans, who are not still at the vulnerable stage, or let’s say the older ones, but yet they are not exempted from suffering as well. Given the fact that this young orphan boys and girls, have to take full responsibilities of themselves, that is responsibilities that were supposed to be carry out by their parents.
This responsibility includes:
- Proving shelters for themselves.
- Sponsoring themselves through school,
- Providing their medical needs,
- Putting food on their tables, and caring for their needs in general.
As a result of this, they are subjected to do miner jobs just to end a living. Due to this challenges, some of this young boys and girls cannot be able to withstand this hardships, some of the girls end up into prostitution, while the boys become arm rubbers.
EMOTIONAL CHALLENGES
Most at times, the society and government turn to handle the physical problems of this children, but turn to ignore the emotional part, which is the greatest problem they all go through. The emotional problem set in as a result of:
- Lack of parental love; the love, care and attention a child receive from her biological parents, is what cannot be replace by any person or anything in this earth, especially the love of a mother, as a result of this, these children always feel an emptiness in them since they cannot receive this love due to the absence of their parents. They always feel hungry and thirsty for the love of a united and complete family.
- Inferiority complex; As a result of the fact that orphans can’t really acquire a beautiful things of life like other children who have both parents can, things like; (good cloths good shoes, go to good and expensive schools, and sometimes are limited in their visions and dreams). You hear them altering statements like “if my parents were still alive, I wouldn’t be putting on this this torn cloths, I would have gone to the best professional school to become a very great doctor or engineer” they always feel like they don’t have a place in the society (inferior). As a result of this inferiority complex, it causes them to be emotionally depressed.
Conclusion
After haven brought out the problems face by orphans, it is often said that there is no problem without a solution. Even though we can bring back their parents back to life, the least we can do is to help them feel love and know that they also have a place in the society.
