This did not work at all.

$ brew update && brew upgrade
Error: /usr/local is not writable. You should change the
ownership and permissions of /usr/local back to your user
account:
sudo chown -R $(whoami) /usr/local

Of course, I would not dare do chown to /usr/local!!!

Then, I try,

$ sudo brew update && brew upgrade
Error: Running Homebrew as root is extremely dangerous and no
longer supported.
As Homebrew does not drop privileges on installation you would be
giving all build scripts full access to your system.

So, I can NOT do anything further.
