Update 6 week ending October 15

Lets begin with a couple individual honors that were earned for play last week.

Kervin Kenton was awarded the Sunbelt Defensive Player of the Week for the 2nd time this season. Kenton anchored the Chants defense that held Hartwick to only four shots.

Madonna‘s GK Joe Smith was named Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after his 5 save clean sheet against Lourdes and 11 save effort in the 4-3 victory over Aquinas.

Monday and Tuesday saw the release of all the college polls that we have been following so let us look at where everyone stands at the start of the Week.

Over in NCAA DII both St Edwards University and Saginaw Valley State University dropped in the polls. St Edwards University landed at #18 and Saginaw Valley State University at #19.

On Tuesday William Mellors-Blair was back in the starting XI as Coalville Town FC lost to Grantham Town 3-1. Early in the 1st half WMB made a nice cross into the box but no one was able to get a foot on it. Mellors-Blair was subbed out in the 68th minute.

Billy Stevens started in the University of Michigan‘s 3-1 loss to Notre Dame.

On Wednesday Michigan State University was upset by West Virginia 1–0.

Joe Smith made 3 saves for Madonna as they lost 4-2 to Lawrence Tech.

Indiana set a school record 7th straight clean sheet as they beat Kentucky 2–0. Spencer Glass continued his excellent play by providing the assist on the 2nd goal.

Colin Miller made 2 saves as Providence secured the 2-1 victory in OT.

Adrian and Kalamazoo drew 0–0.

Cody Lang was on the bench for the second straight match as the Seattle Sounders 2 lost 2-1 to the Swope Park Rangers.

Elijah Rice scored a goal for the University of Washington on Thursday as they drew against Stanford 1-1. Kyle Coffee and Luke Hauswirth both also started.

Owain Hoskins started and had 2 shots on goal (half the teams chances) as St Edwards University bested West Texas A&M 1-0.

Dylan Waugaman was a late substitute as Valpo got the 5-2 win over Western Illinois.

Danny Deakin was in the bench to start the Orlando City B match against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Danny came on in the 66th minute but could not overcome Tampa’s 2-0 lead.

Steve Carroll started for Davenport in their 1–0 victory.

Saginaw Valley State University beat Purdue Northwest 4–0 without the help of Omar Sinclair who did not see action.

Maryland is now riding a 30 regular season match unbeaten streak as they defeated Wisconsin. Still no Aaron Franco.

As usual our Saturday starts over in England as William Mellors-Blair started for Coalville Town FC against Witton Albion, his 2nd straight start. Mellors-Blair did not take the pitch after the half as Coalville Town FC lost 5-2.

Owain Hoskins got a goal, and it was a beauty, in St Edwards University 4-1 victory over Eastern New Mexico.

Coastal Carolina upset Old Dominion 5-2. Kervin Kenton only played 45 minutes, which has me a bit worried, hoping it is nothing more than an extra bit of rest. Louis Dargent scored his first goal of the season and put in his first full shift of the season. You would never know he missed the first 6 weeks of the season with the way he is playing since his return.

Max Todd put in 59 minutes and tallied 3 shots and 1 shot on goal as the University of Chicago Illinois drew 0-0 against Northern Kentucky.

Western Michigan University got the victory over Northern Illinois 5-0. Zach Bock started and went the distance for the Broncos.

Shayan Shushtari had 2 shots with 1 shot on goal as Adrian fell 5-1 against Calvin.

Derrick Otim and Xavier lost 4-1 against Creighton.

Colin Miller continued his good form as he made 3 saves in the 3-1 Providence victory against Seton Hall. Finally some offense in front of his stellar goal keeping performances.

Coach Damon Rensing earned his 100th victory as Michigan State University beat Penn State 1-0.

Billy Stevens and the University of Michigan came from behind to defeat Omaha 2-1 in OT.

Joe Smith added another clean sheet in Madonna’s 5-0 victory over Rochester College.

Continuing the New York Red Bulls II strategy of alternating goalkeepers Evan Louro was on the bench as they lost to Rochester 2-1. Their next match will be in the first round of the USL playoffs.

On Sunday Saginaw Valley State University fell behind 2-0 early to Tiffin but came back in dramatic fashion with a last minute goal for the win. Omar Sinclair returned to the starting line-up after being left off earlier in the week, but the biggest news of the day was Omar got a hair cut.

Steve Carroll was in the starting XI for Davenport as they beat Northwood 2-1.

Elijah Rice and Luke Hauswirth both started for the University of Washington against California. Kyle Coffee put in 34 minutes as a sub. Luke scored the only goal for Washington as they lost 2-1.

Indiana recorded their eighth straight clean sheet as they beat the number 17th ranked team in Ohio State 2-0. Spencer Glass played 11 minutes.

Cody Lang made his Professional debut when he entered the match in the 60th minute with his Sounders 2 down 3-0. The Sounders 2 ended up dropping the match to OKC Energy 3-1.

Kofi Opare did not make the trip to Portland as DC United lost 4-0.

And the winner of the most coveted award in soccer the WHERE ARE THEY NOW Player of the Week is Colin Miller of Providence. Colin has been outstanding in goal all year without much support but things are beginning to click for the team. Miller only allowed 2 Goals as Providence won both their matches this week and are riding a 3 match unbeaten streak. Keep up the hard work Colin.
