The first week has passed since I started Scrum in my daily life. It seems that it works very well. Let’s see what happened this week.

What I Have Done

Week 3 in Introduction to User Experience Principles and Processes

The topic in week 3 is about visual perception and memory. They are a kind of new concepts to me and very interesting. I learned that you can perceive and memorize much less stuff than you thought, e.g., the capacity of memory in short-term memory is around four items. Thus, designers have to design products based on such limited capacity of human beings.

Learning Hindi: Postposition in HindiDrill and Notebook in italki

In contrast to prepositions in English, Hindi has postpositions which is actually very similar to my native language, Japanese. When it comes to learning a foreign language, it is important to be aware that there are similar concepts, but not the same ones. If you try to memorize grammar rules like में is in, you will hardly get natural expressions. I have to learn Hindi without translating between languages.

I found an interesting word in Hindi, which is संस्कृति (sanskriti). You probably know this word: संस्कृत (sanskrit) which is a language of ancient India with a 3,500 year history. Then, what is the definition of संस्कृति (sanskriti)? The answer is culture. That is very interesting, isn’t it? That made me want to know how Sanskrit influences in the modern Indian culture.

Workout Program

I completed my own program as I planned.

Apart from Todos

Purchase of Android Device

I was impressed by the fact that a serial entrepreneur whom I respect switches mobile phones every three months in order to get used to both iOS and Android. The project for which I am currently assigned as a project manager will release a software in iOS and Android. However, I have been using only iOS devices so far. It was obvious that I should have an Android device too. I will try to intentionally use both the OSs and understand how they are different.

Ms. Sadako Ogata Expired on 29th Oct

She was a female pioneer in working actively in the globe and became the first female to be appointed UN High Commissioner for Refugees. I came to know about her when I decided to work abroad. Soon after that, I started to respect her. She tried to see refugees with her own eyes even at the risk of her life and save as many refugees as possible by changing a policy at the UN refugee agency. How many of you could do the same thing? Let me extend my deepest condolences on her death.
