No Pressure
Kindergarten to senior year is 13 years. We learn most of what we need to survive as an adult in 13 years. We decide our entire life in 13 years. What college we attend, what we will be majoring in, if we want to play a sport in college. A lot of huge life decisions that can change the whole course of our existence. Our entire life depends on the things we do now, in these 13 years. But, no pressure.
No pressure that you’ll have to ask to use the restroom or quench your thirst a month before you are expected to go to college, live on your own, get a job, and carry your own weight.
No pressure that we’ll teach you everything you need to know about a triangle but won’t teach you how to apply for college, or about personal finance, or about relationships, or self-awareness, or how to hold a conversation. But those things aren’t very important to life are they?
We’re tested the first 18 years of our life to determine the worth of our future. If you don’t get a good ACT score, well sucks to be you, because you aren’t getting into the college you want to go to. If you don’t have a good GPA kiss the scholarships goodbye. Looks like you’re gonna be in debt for a few years after college without those scholarships. If you’re 17 and you don’t know what to spend the rest of your life doing, get a grip kid, it’s not that hard. It’s just going to affect your income and family. No biggie, it’s really simple.
Go to school, follow rules, raise your hand, get good great, be involved, and go to college. It’s easy really. It’s just your entire life is in your adolescent hands.
But, no pressure.
